Bird and bat monitoring for wind farms in Romania
Birds and bats are the species groups most sensitive to wind energy, and the focus of lender scrutiny. We quantify collision and displacement risk before construction.
What we monitor
Migratory and breeding birds, raptors and soaring species, and bat activity and species composition — using survey methods matched to the site and the standards required.
Where collision risk must be quantified, we apply collision risk modelling using the Band model — the recognised method for estimating bird collision risk at wind farms — to inform the impact assessment and any turbine-curtailment strategy. See the standards we work to →
Why it matters
Robust pre-construction data is what allows a project to demonstrate, credibly, that bird and bat risk has been assessed and managed. It feeds directly into the ESIA and sets the baseline against which post-construction monitoring is later measured.
Bird & bat monitoring — frequently asked
Do you carry out collision risk modelling?
Yes — we apply the Band model, the recognised method for estimating bird collision risk at wind farms.
When should monitoring start?
Ideally a full year before construction, to capture migration, breeding and seasonal bat activity.
