Biodiversity baseline surveys for wind and solar in Romania

A biodiversity baseline establishes what species and habitats are present at a site before development — the factual foundation every credible impact assessment depends on.

What we survey

We survey across all biodiversity receptors: invertebrates, fish (ichthyofauna, where aquatic habitats are present), amphibians and reptiles, birds, mammals and bats — together with habitats and flora. Survey design and effort are matched to the site, the project type and the standards in play. We also carry out habitat mapping and habitat analysis in line with the applicable methodological guidance, and Critical Habitat Assessment (CHA) under IFC PS6 where it is triggered.

From baseline to bankable assessment

A robust baseline lets us identify priority and protected species, screen for critical habitat under IFC PS6, and feed defensible data into the ESIA and any Appropriate Assessment. Weak baselines are the most common reason lender due diligence stalls.

Deliverables

Bilingual baseline report, species inventories, GIS habitat mapping, and a sensitivity analysis identifying the constraints that should shape project layout.

Questions

Baseline surveys — frequently asked

How long does a baseline take?

Lender-standard baselines typically require a full survey year to capture seasonal variation.

Do you assess critical habitat?

Yes — we screen against the IFC PS6 critical-habitat criteria where the project context requires it.
