Natura 2000 Appropriate Assessment in Romania

Where a wind or solar project may affect a Natura 2000 site, an Appropriate Assessment evaluates whether the project would harm the site’s conservation objectives.

When it is required

When a project lies within, or could significantly affect, a Special Protection Area or Special Area of Conservation — assessed through screening before the full study.

How we work

We screen for likely significant effects, assess impacts on qualifying species and habitats, and define mitigation. Where effects remain, we address the conditions for derogation under the Habitats Directive. The study aligns with OUG 57/2007 and Ordinul 1682/2023 and supports the ESIA. Is it the same as an EIA?

No — it is a distinct assessment focused specifically on Natura 2000 conservation objectives, often run alongside the EIA/ESIA.
