Biodiversity is a Romanian environmental consultancy founded in 2016, specialising in biodiversity assessment and ESIA for wind and solar projects — to international lender standards and Romanian regulation at once.
Leadership
Petrișor Galan — Founder & Managing Director, Biologist, MSc.
Petrișor is an environmental and biodiversity specialist with more than a decade leading complex assessments for renewable-energy developments, and over two decades of field experience in ornithology and conservation. He founded Biodiversity in 2016 and, as Managing Director, coordinates multidisciplinary teams delivering high-quality biodiversity inputs for wind, solar and battery storage (BESS) projects — in full alignment with IFC PS6, EBRD, EIB and EU environmental requirements. His experience also extends to road and rail infrastructure and the mining and extractives sector.
His expertise spans the full cycle of biodiversity work: field-survey design and coordination (birds, bats, habitats), Critical Habitat assessments, impact evaluations, and the development of practical, bankable mitigation and management strategies. He works at the intersection of science, regulation and real-world project constraints — helping developers advance responsible infrastructure while maintaining ecological integrity — and values precision, clear communication, and solutions that are both scientifically sound and implementable in the field.
Our team
Our team brings together specialists across all the field disciplines relevant to renewable-energy biodiversity work — invertebrates, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals and bats, alongside habitats and flora — supported by in-house GIS and spatial analysis.
GIS & spatial analysis
Spatial data is at the core of a credible impact assessment. Our in-house GIS and spatial-analysis capability, led by a senior GIS specialist, produces the constraint mapping, sensitivity analysis and habitat mapping that underpin our baseline surveys, ESIA and management plans. We are developing GIS into a dedicated service line.
ai4biodiversity
We are developing ai4biodiversity, a related initiative exploring how AI can accelerate biodiversity data workflows — from field-data processing to analysis and reporting — alongside our consultancy work. It will be introduced in due course.
How we work
International standards, local execution. We build every assessment to satisfy both international lenders and the Romanian authorities, from a team based in Romania.
Bilingual by default. Every study is produced and reported in English and Romanian.
